Green Solutions from Our Interdisciplinary Research Networks

The green transition affects many different parts of society. To arrive at sustainable green solutions, we need interdisciplinary research that simultaneously considers the scientific, social, and legal aspects of the green transition. Research that also takes into account people's culture, history, and health.

Our various interdisciplinary research networks work to find solutions that consider the entirety of the green transition. Common to all networks is the participation of researchers across KU.

Agricultural Soils

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural soils is among the most effective ways to reduce emissions, but we lack knowledge on how to do it most effectively. Our research network "Reducing emissions from agricultural soils" works across KU's faculties to identify sustainable solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from agricultural soils.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence has enormous potential to contribute to the green transition, but the technology itself is also somewhat of a climate offender. This paradox, along with a number of other challenges associated with the use of artificial intelligence, is what we are examining in our research network "AI and Green Transition."

Biosolutions

By combining nature's own solutions to climate and environmental challenges with modern technology, we can create new sustainable solutions for the green transition. Our research network 'Biosolutions' is investigating how.

Degrowth

In our research network "Degrowth," we investigate how a democratic and fair downscaling of resource and energy consumption can bring us back into balance with nature while improving human and more-than-human well-being.

Forestry

How do we ensure that forestry solutions contribute optimally to the green transition and the fight against climate change? This is what our research network 'Forestry solutions to climate change' is investigating.

Governance

The green transition requires effective management, planning, and good governance. Our research network 'The governance of green transition' is investigating how.

Land use planning

How should we allocate the Earth's land resources to ensure optimal biodiversity, sustainable food production, climate adaptation, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions? This is what our research network 'Land use planning and multifunctionality' is investigating.

Urban areas

Over 80 percent of Danes live in cities. Our research network 'Urban solutions to green transitions' is investigating how we can best create green and sustainable cities.

Animal production

The production of animals is a burden on the environment, biodiversity, and the climate. Our research network 'Sustainable animal production' is working on developing methods and technologies that can lead to more sustainable animal production.

Biodiversity

The planet is in the midst of a biodiversity crisis. This also applies to Denmark, where wild nature is under pressure. Our research network "Biodiversity Conservation and Promotion of Ecosystem Services" is working to develop the necessary knowledge to create societal solutions to the biodiversity crisis in Denmark.

CO2 Capture

Capture and storage of CO2 is a well-established method and technology to reduce CO2 emissions. However, in Denmark, we still lack much knowledge about how best to store and possibly use captured CO2. What are the legal, political, and societal challenges? This is what we are investigating in our research network "Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage."

Food waste

More than two tons of food are wasted every day in Denmark. Our research network 'Fighting food waste' is investigating how we can best reduce food waste in practice.

Global South

Agro-ecological production can help ensure sustainable and climate-friendly food systems in the Global South. This is the focus of our research network 'Sustainable food systems in the Global South.

Health

The green transition is an excellent opportunity to look at how we can improve our health. Our research network 'Health responsible green transition' is investigating how.

Plant-based foods

A more plant-based food system is an obvious way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while also ensuring better public health. Our research network 'A more plant-based, nutritious and consumer-based food system' is investigating how we can best achieve this shift.
